HAYFEVER

From mid-February to the end of August, my practice is dominated by patients who suffer from hay-fever and/or allergies. It seems there are more and more people getting hay-fever every year, and recently the age-range seems to have dropped to include young toddlers and babies. It’s easy to take medication for hay-fever, and many people do, just to get through the worst of the season. However, this medication only temporarily relieves the symptoms of hay-fever without reducing the sensitivity towards it. In my experience, homeopathic remedies not only relieve the immediate symptoms, but also reduce symptoms overall the following year. I have seen many patients suffer less and less with hay-fever each year until they no longer need to consult me for help.

The best procedure for reducing hay-fever symptoms long-term

1.       Pre-season Prevention.

In my experience, giving a patient a good immune system boost just before the hay-fever season helps to reduce symptoms during the season. This is done by prescribing a remedy to match symptoms of the whole body and personality (what we call a “constitutional” remedy). This first constitutional appointment is in-depth, usually an hour long, and we discuss medical history, family medical history, symptoms throughout the body, as well as personality traits, stresses etc. In this appointment I also give specific remedies to reduce sensitivity towards pollen. For adults these appointments are £60 and for children (under 14) they’re £40, including all of the remedies.

Once you’ve had this first appointment, there’s no need to ever have it again, no matter what ailment you seek my help with in the future.

2.       Management .

During the hay-fever season, I find that using remedies which match the particular hay-fever symptoms of the patient are the most effective in reducing symptoms. I provide acute appointments during the hay-fever season, which are £30 for adults and £20 for children, including all remedies. Symptoms do change during the season, which is a good sign that the body is no longer stuck, and is instead starting to get on top of things. As these changes occur, other remedies become better suited, so we have these appointments as often as necessary. In my experience 2 to 3 appointments during the hay-fever season are enough for most people, and for those with particularly severe hay-fever symptoms, fortnightly or weekly appointments may be needed for the first month or so. These appointments can be in person or over the phone if that’s more convenient, and the remedies can be collected from my practice.

3.       Post-season Recovery.

After the worst of the hay-fever symptoms have subsided, I find it invaluable to support the body to a full recovery. This involves giving another “constitutional” remedy to stimulate the immune system and return the body to balance after an exhausting hay-fever season. These follow-up appointments are usually 30 – 40 minutes and including all remedies, they’re £50 for adults and £30 for children.

4.       Winter Desensitization.

And appointment during the winter gives me an opportunity to give another constitutional prescription. This is provided to reduce sensitivity and strengthen the whole system so it is better equipped to cope when the pollen count goes up. After all,  a strong immune system makes the body less vulnerable to allergens.

In my experience when I’ve been able to see a patient 3 times outside of the hay-fever season itself, I’ve seen the biggest improvement in symptoms. And when I’ve seen a patient during 2 consecutive winters, their hay-fever symptoms have been negligible that year.
